BorderSmart is now available on iOS and Android. The app is free, and it covers San Ysidro and Otay Mesa from day one.

If you cross the US-Mexico border regularly, you already know the problem. A crossing that takes 15 minutes one day can turn into an hour or more the next. San Ysidro is especially volatile because of the volume it handles, and Otay Mesa can swing too depending on freight traffic, time of day, and the day of the week.

BorderSmart is built to answer two simple questions: what is the wait right now, and what is it likely to look like if I leave later? The app uses public CBP wait-time data and pairs it with forecasts based on historical crossing patterns. Instead of seeing one number and guessing, you can check the next few hours before you decide when to leave.

We built the app around the decisions people actually make. It breaks out standard lanes, Ready Lanes, and SENTRI separately. You can set alerts for good crossing windows or unusually heavy waits and let the app watch conditions for you. The app is available in English and Spanish, and it keeps the latest data cached locally for times when signal around the border gets weak.
